Just one day out from predicting when WhatsApp hit 1 billion

In November 2014 we published a White Paper (sponsored by tyntec), "From Resistance to Partnership: Operators shift into monetising OTT", in which we projected that WhatsApp would reach 1 billion users in January 2016. The company announced on 1st February that it had reached the 1 billion landmark.

Using our trend analysis expertise, mobilesquared correctly identified the date by just 1 day out. And it's not the first time we've correctly identified major milestones in mobile. We were only minutes (about 87 to be precise) out from the time at which point the Apple App Store experienced its 1 billionth app download in 2009, a big achievement for the app world back then. We predicted this 1 month prior.

Our understanding of all-things-mobile and our ongoing research and analysis into the mobile marketplace, means that we are very good at forecasting. And very soon we will be applying this expertise to our own range of market forecasts and strategic insight reports, in a series of databooks to be launched next month.

Our first databook will provide market-by-market smartphone forecasts, followed by databooks focusing on A2P messaging forecasts, and OTT user forecasts. For more information, contact us at info@mobilesquared or call the office on +44 118 380 1601.
