Oxygen8 join Band Aid 30 to raise money for Ebola crisis

Oxygen8 has been selected by a member organisation of Band Aid 30 to provide the mobile platform to run a competition in the UK allowing one very lucky person (plus guest) with the opportunity of being a special guest at the recording of Do They Know It's Christmas (aka Band Aid 4) on Saturday November 15th.

The winner will have the opportunity to meet with those musicians already confirmed by Sir Bob Geldof, including One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith, Emeli Sande, Elbow, Disclosure, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and U2’s Bono, will be in attendance, with more artists expected to be added to the stellar line-up.

By texting AID to 88833, each entrant will automatically be in with a chance of winning this amazing prize. Texts cost £1.50. But entrants have to act fast, as the  competition will only run for 48 hours, closing at lunchtime on Thursday 13th November.

Each text will go towards raising money to fight the Ebola crisis.

Oxygen8’s Mobile Platform can process up to 50,000 messages per minute. Over the 48 hours the competition is running, the Oxygen8 platform could potentially deliver 144 million messages.

“Due to the nature of Band Aid initiatives, they require an immediate response from all partners. Sir Bob Geldof gets the musicians involved, and it’s our role to select the right partners that can deliver a robust platform that can meet the demands of a nation. We gave Oxygen8 a very short timeframe to create the mobile solution and they have delivered,” said Mark Cowne, CEO of Kruger Cowne, a member organization of Band Aid 30.

“To be a component of the Band Aid 30 team in their efforts to raise money to overcome the Ebola crisis is truly humbling,” said James Harrison, UK CEO, Oxygen8. “Oxygen8’s Mobile Platform has allowed us to be highly-responsive and react in a matter of days to the Band Aid 30 competition needs, and deliver a robust solution on which millions of music fans will pin their hopes of success. Oxygen8’s Mobile Platform delivers millions of messages every day.”

“We are delighted to be part of this fantastic opportunity where we can really make a difference to the Ebola crisis,” said Robert Townsend, Chief Marketing Officer, Oxygen8. “Using Oxygen8’s Mobile Platform means we can use this incredible competition to start the money raising before one note has been sung, and Do They Know It’s Christmas goes on sale.”

The Band Aid 30 competition will be supported with an integrated multi-channel campaign across all social media, including #BandAid30 on Twitter and “Band Aid 30” on Facebook.

The competition closes midday Thursday 13th November. The winner will be selected and contacted by Friday 14th November, and must be available on Saturday 15th November to facilitate the prize.

Do They Know It’s Christmas will go on sale on Monday November 17th, downloads will cost £0.99 and CDs £4.00.
